HARRIET GRAHAM

Trains from stables at her home at Brundeanlaws in the Scottish Border hills just south of Jedburgh. She has been training horses since 1983 and moved to Brundeanlaws in 1999, to take advantage of the superb training facilities provided by the thousands of acres of surrounding hill land. She has achieved many successes with a variety of horses such as the Kelso specialist Rosalyons, the game Harry Hooly, the consistent Russian Sky and the Bumper, Hurdle winning and Group 2 placed Indy Mood.

Horses

Harriet's aim is to get the best out of the horses that she trains and she has the reputation of getting the best out of moderate horses. Many of her successes have been achieved with cheap horses and Rosalyons, who has won 5 races, only cost £500! She also knows how to handle a good horse if one comes her way, with Indy Mood winning a Bumper and completing a hat-trick over hurdles and being placed second twice in Group 2 hurdles.

Harriet's horses are well cared for, well schooled and well turned out at the races. They are always fit. She tries to keep the horses happy and relaxed and believes in letting them have a couple of hours every day out in the field to stretch their legs and to have a roll. She may take them hunting or to a local Hunter Trial or Common Riding to give them more experience and to keep them interested.

Owners

Looking after the horses is only half the job as a trainer, looking after the owners is just as important! Where possible, horses will be raced locally and on days that owners can attend, as having a fun day out at the races is the reason why the horse is in training. Enjoyment of a day out at the races is that much more of an experience when you can shout your own horse home at your local track.

Harriet believes in getting owners involved in watching horses gallop and school and keeping them informed and involved in race plans. We use text messaging and e-mail to keep owners up to date with race plans and the well being of their horses.

We will try to maximise the rate of return for owners by looking for races with appearance money, small fields and prize money for more than the first three horses to finish.

We also run two syndicates in order to provide a cheaper option to becoming a racehorse owner. We follow racing industry best practice standards and use Trainer/Owner contracts as drawn up by the national trainers Federation and Racehorse Owners Association.
